Racer – Champion – Pioneer

MOORESVILLE, NC, April 19, 2018 – Jack Roush’s two passions in life have always been racing and aviation. In a career that spans over 50 years, Roush has taken his two passions and turned them into the iconic American dream.
Roush the quintessential entrepreneur, champion race car owner, and pioneer of engineering services was born in the small town of Covington, Kentucky and grew up not far away in Manchester, Ohio. Earning a mathematics degree with a minor in physics from Berea College (he later received a master’s in scientific mathematics from Eastern Michigan University). Faced with a decision at graduation to work for Ford Motor Co. or Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, he decided to move to Dearborn, Michigan to work for Ford, where his legendary story began.
Ford and Roush have a long and successful relationship, spanning over 50 years. It was at Ford Motor Co. where Roush was first introduced to the Ford employee race team called “The Fastbacks”, known for their drag racing. Roush became even more passionate about racing and competition, taking his passion for racing one step further, in 1970, he partnered with Wayne Gapp in a racing venture that would see the duo win three national Pro Stock championships, one each in the NHRA, IHRA and AHRA Pro Stock drag racing series.

In the mid-1970’s, Roush decided to start his first engineering business and formed Jack Roush Performance Engineering in 1976. His reputation in the world of high-performance engine building kept him rooted in the sport of racing; producing engines for numerous teams throughout the early 80’s.

In 1984, Roush was asked by Ford to develop a car for the SCCA Trans-Am and IMSA Camel GT racing series. He took on this new opportunity and won the 1985 manufacturer’s championship for Lincoln-Mercury in addition to winning an unprecedented 119 races and 24 national championships between the two series.

Roush went onto launch his first NASCAR Cup team with driver Mark Martin (NASCAR Hall of Famer) in 1988. Roush and Martin claimed their first NASCAR Cup victory at North Carolina Motor Speedway in 1989, creating one of the sports’ most famed partnerships. Partnering with Fenway Sports Group (FSG), Roush transformed Roush Fenway Racing into one of the most successful teams in the history of professional sports, achieving 325 NASCAR wins and eight NASCAR championships to date.

Over the course of Roush’s 30-year career in NASCAR,19 different drivers have won races under his leadership; 2003 Cup Champion and two-time Daytona 500 winner Matt Kenseth, as well as 2004 Cup Champion, Kurt Busch and two-time NASCAR Champion Greg Biffle to name just a few.
In 2003, Roush joined forces with Robert Yates (NASCAR Hall of Famer) to form Roush Yates Engines. Roush Yates Engines, the exclusive NASCAR Cup and Xfinity engine builder, as well as IMSA and FIA series engine builder for Ford Performance. Designing, developing and manufacturing high-performance engines for the elite teams of Roush Fenway Racing, Team Penske, Wood Brothers, Stewart-Haas Racing, Front Row Motorsports, Go Fas Racing and Ford Chip Ganassi Racing.

“Happy Birthday and congratulations to one of my heroes, mentors and a great friend to our family on the NASCAR Hall of Fame nomination,” said Doug Yates, President and CEO of Roush Yates Engines. “Jack has been a champion and icon in the sport of racing for over 50 years, accomplishing achievements we can only hope to reach. It is my honor to be your partner and to call you my friend.”

For almost 50 years Roush has been committed to winning on and off the track. As a direct result of Roush’s hard work, drive and dedication he has turned his love of racing into 43 championships, more than 500 race wins in drag racing, sports car and stock car racing, 1,000 top-5 and over 2,000 top-10 finishes, while leading over 57,000 laps and turning well over a million miles.
As an advocate for the sport of auto racing, Roush advanced the safety of the cars. He brought together his knowledge of aviation and aerodynamics to determine how the changes to car designs in the 1990’s affected their aerodynamics and used this research to create the roof flaps which gave the cars more downforce to keep them on the ground in case of an accident. Roush is one of today’s professional sports’ premiere owners and champions for the sport of racing.

As a racer and champion, Jack Roush has taken his two passions, cars and aviation, and turned them into his life’s’ work. Creating six organizations; Roush Industries, Roush Performance, Roush Clean Tech, Roush Fenway Racing, Roush Assembly Solutions and Roush Yates Engines.

As chairman of the board of Roush Enterprises, Inc., which employs more than 4,000 people and operates facilities across North America, Europe and Asia, Roush has taken his winning record on the track and applied it to the boardroom to become one of the most successful automotive entrepreneurs of the modern era.

FAST FORDS AT TALLADEGA AS ALMIROLA WINS

Posted on: October 15th, 2018

TALLADEGA, AL – October 15, 2018 – Aric Almirola won for the second time in his career and first time in the No.10 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford Fusion to automatically advance to the Round of 8 in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. Almirola’s win continued Ford’s winning streak at Talladega, recording their seventh in a row at the SuperSpeedway. It was also SHR’s milestone 50th points-paying MENCS win and its first victory at Talladega.
“I’m so happy for Aric, Tony and SHR,” said Doug Yates, President and CEO of Roush Yates Engines. “They executed their plan perfectly today. I’m just so proud of all the hard work at Ford Performance, all the things that Mark Rushbrook is doing leading our group, and everybody at Roush Yates Engines and the dedication they put into the plate racing here at Talladega and when we go to Daytona. It takes a total team effort and I’m just proud to be part of the team. It’s an incredible day here at Talladega. My dad loved racing here. We raced here together a lot and it kind of started back when we had Davey Allison as our driver in the 28 car. It was interesting, I asked Aric yesterday I said, ‘Maybe we should put a 28 on the side of this car.’ I thought he was gonna win the race and I asked him if he’d mind to carry that 28 to Victory Lane today and to be here with him is amazing. I’m trying to carry on what my dad, Robert Yates started, and our family tradition of plate racing and just really proud to have my daughter Olivia here with me today and carrying on the family tradition. What a way to win our company’s 350th overall win.”
The power of the Ford Performance, Roush Yates Engines powered Ford Fusions made a statement in Talladega, after qualifying 1-2-3-4 and leading 184 total laps (489 miles) out of a 193-lap overtime race on Sunday.
“We came and brought four amazing racecars,” Almirola commented in Victory Lane.  “As an organization, we were so committed to each other about running up front, staying up front, scoring as many points as we can, and staying committed to the bottom lane, to each other. I feel like that strategy, honestly, was what obviously won us the race. I think our cars were so fast that as long as we stayed single file, all four of us lined up, nobody could get that outside lane working to go up there and challenge us.”
Stewart-Haas Racing teammates hooked up and showed great disciple to lead the field for all but 2 laps during the first two stages of the race. Pole and Stage 1 winner, Kurt Busch lead the field for 108 laps while teammate Kevin Harvick led 46 laps on his way to winning Stage 2.
“I want to thank everybody from the engine department at Roush Yates for all the work and effort that they put into everything that goes on the race track,” said Harvick. “This is all about cars and people and engines and everything that goes and when you can have a group of guys that work together like we did today, you can control the situation in the race a lot more than just battling it out amongst each other. I’m really, really happy for Aric. He works his butt off. Those guys have done a great job all year and to see them get to Victory Lane is a lot of fun.”
A late race caution caused the race to go into overtime, the additional laps caused fuel challenges for Harvick, Blaney and Busch as they ran out of fuel during the last laps of the race, shuffling the field on the final two laps of the race.

It was a 1, 2, 3, & 5 finish for Ford; SHR teammates Almirola and Clint Bowyer finished 1-2 while Ricky Stenhouse Jr. from Roush Fenway Racing drove up through the field to finish third. Team Penske’s Joey Logano finished fifth and Wood Brother’s Racing, Paul Menard finished ninth.

Kansas will be the next cutoff race for MENCS. The Ford drivers are currently in P1 Almirola, P3 Harvick, P5 Logano, P6 Kurt Busch, P7 Bowyer, P9 Brad Keselowski and P10 Ryan Blaney.

CONCORD, NC, April 25, 2018 – NASCAR champion Matt Kenseth will return home to the organization where he began his NASCAR career, piloting Roush Fenway Racing’s flagship No. 6 Ford Fusion. Kenseth will share the No. 6 ride with current driver Trevor Bayne for a part of the remaining 2018 season.

Kenseth will also have a new sponsor, with the team announcing a multi-year partnership with Wyndham Rewards®, the award-winning loyalty program of Wyndham Hotel Group, as a new primary sponsor on the No. 6.

“It’s a great feeling to return to where it all started for me in the Cup Series,” said Kenseth. “There aren’t many people who have been more influential in my racing career than Jack Roush and Mark Martin. For them to believe in me today means almost as much as it did when they believed in me the first time, 20 years ago. I’m excited to get to the shop, get back to work, and help Roush Fenway return to prominence in the NASCAR Cup Series.”

Kenseth piloted Jack Roush’s No. 17 Ford for 13 seasons and brought home the team’s first Cup championship in 2003 as well as its historic 300th victory with a 2012 Daytona 500 win. One of the most accomplished drivers of NASCAR’s modern era, Kenseth boasts 39 NASCAR Cup victories. He is one of only six drivers in the sport’s 75-year history to win a Cup Championship, the Cup Rookie of the Year Award and the Daytona 500 and Talladega 500.

“We are very pleased to welcome Matt back to Roush Fenway,” said team co-owner Jack Roush. “Matt is one of the guys who really put us on the map of the racing landscape. He’s one of the most talented drivers to ever sit inside a race car and his will to win, drive and determination have always embodied what we strive for as an organization.”

COUNT DOWN TO LE MANS 2018

Posted on: June 5th, 2018

MOORESVILLE, NC – June 5, 2018 – When the 2018 Le Mans 24 Hours gets underway next week (June 16-17) the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing team will face its greatest challenge yet. The class in which the Ford GTs compete at Le Mans – ‘GTE Pro’ – now boasts 17 of the world’s best GT cars and 51 of the world’s fastest racing drivers, making it the fiercest competition the team has faced so far.

Now in the third year of its successful Ford GT race programme, which has seen Ford Chip Ganassi Racing win at Le Mans in 2016 and finish as runner-up in 2017, the team is ready to take on all challengers.

“It’s rewarding to see all four cars come together as one team every year at Le Mans,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsport. “It shows the scale of the global effort we launched in 2016 and have been building on since.

“Le Mans is always the ultimate challenge but this year it has gone up a level through the sheer size of the opposition. We’re going up against the best that Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, Corvette and BMW have to offer and we can’t wait. This is why we race.”

The Le Mans 24 Hours is always a highlight in Chip Ganassi’s racing calendar and he too is fully committed to shooting for another Ford victory in 2018.

“The Le Mans 24 Hours is one of those races that you have circled on the calendar,” Ganassi said. “It has everything. It’s on an historic track in France, it is an endurance race and it is one of the most spectacular events in the world. When you win a race like Le Mans, you know you have accomplished something. It is multiple drivers, crew members and the right manufacturer all coming together. I can’t wait to get back there to compete for another win.”

The #66 Ford GT crew of Stefan Mücke (GER), Olivier Pla (FRA) and Billy Johnson (USA) took their first victory in the opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship at Spa in Belgium last month. Le Mans has been hard on them over the last two years, so they hope the Spa win signals a change in their fortunes.

In the #67 Ford GT, IndyCar star Tony Kanaan (BRA) joins last year’s runners-up, Andy Priaulx (GB) and Harry Tincknell (GB), and they all have their eye on the top step of the podium.

Already podium finishers in 2018, the drivers of the #68 Ford GT are the history-makers: the crew that took Ford’s first modern-day Le Mans win in 2016. Joey Hand (USA), Sébastien Bourdais (FRA) and Dirk Müller (GER) would love to do the double.

The drivers of the #69 Ford GT got their 2018 campaign off to the best possible start by winning the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Ryan Briscoe (AUS), Richard Westbrook (GB) and Scott Dixon (NZ) are more than ready for another 24-hour win.

Ford NASCAR Mustang Revealed; World’s Best-Selling Sports Coupe Ready for Cup Competition in 2019

  • Ford unveils the new NASCAR Mustang that will compete in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series in 2019 for employees at the company’s World Headquarters
  • World’s best-selling sports coupe moves to America’s most popular form of racing – for the first time ever – debuting at 2019 Daytona 500 in February
  • Ford Performance and Ford Design teams worked together on new model to create competitive race car that remains true to its heritage

DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 9, 2018 – Ford today revealed its all-new Mustang NASCAR Cup race car, the first time Mustang – the world’s best-selling sports car – will compete in NASCAR’s top-level Cup racing series.

“Mustang has raced since it was first sold in 1964,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford’s executive vice president, Product Development and Purchasing, who was on hand to help unveil the car.  “After more than a half-century, it feels great to finally let Mustang run in the top echelon of America’s most popular stock car racing series.”

Even before Mustang became a global icon, its first competition was in 1964, when it surprisingly won the Tour de France Automobile, a grueling 4,000 mile, 10-day rally. Soon after, it began a racing legacy in SCCA Trans-Am, IMSA, NHRA, Formula Drift and NASCAR Xfinity – NASCAR’s second tier series.

“Ever since we announced in April that Mustang would be going to the Cup level in 2019, we’ve heard nothing but positive feedback,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports.  “Our Ford Performance team has worked hard with the Ford Design team to create a Mustang that will be competitive on the track while remaining true to its proud heritage. We can’t wait to see it winning races in the NASCAR Cup Series next year.”

Ford Design and Ford Performance worked carefully to translate Mustang’s signature style to meet NASCAR rules, ensuring Mustang will look as great on the oval as it does on the street.

All 13 Ford drivers currently competing in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series were on hand for the unveiling for employees at the company’s World Headquarters, along with team owners and NASCAR executives.

“We look forward to seeing the Ford Mustang, a cultural icon, on the track in the most competitive series in all of motorsports,” said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer. “Our sport eagerly anticipates the performance, style and fanfare the Mustang will bring to the track each weekend beginning at the 2019 Daytona 500.”

Mustang has been competing full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series since 2011 and has won a championship in all but one season.  Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won back-to-back driver’s championships in 2011 and 2012, while Roger Penske has claimed the owner’s title in four of the last five years.

Today’s reveal comes on the heels of a celebration of the 10 millionth Mustang off the assembly line in Flat Rock, Mich., on Wednesday.

The first race for the new NASCAR Mustang will be the Daytona 500 on Feb. 17, 2019.
